Houston, TX– Son of Legendary Julio Cesar Chavez Jr (44-0-1 | 31 KOs ) WBC Middleweight Champion stepped into the ring against Peter Manfredo (37-7-0 | 20 KOs) WBC #4 ranked contender. Manfredo coming off a 308 day hiatus from boxing to face Chavez Jr. Chavez Jr was heavily favorited against Manfredo.

Chavez Jr was lead into the ring by his father, Mexico’s most prized boxer, Chavez Sr.

Manfredo came out strong and determined to test Chavez Jr’s chin and establish him self as the aggressor. Chavez jr showing adjusting to Manfredo’s aggression took some early shots well as he picked his landed well on Manfredo who was leaving him self open.

Chavez Jr began counterpunching more frequently and throwing combinations. Manfredo had no answers for Chavez Jr’s speed and combinations. Manfredo, going up in weight to make the fight looked slower than Chavez but taht didn’t stop him from standing in front of Julio. :27 seconds left in the fight and Chavez landed 14 to Manfredo’s 3.

Rounds 3 and 4 offered more of the same as Manfredo took more punishment and his only answer was a denying head shake.

At 1:29, Chavez Jr landed a vicious straight right hand directly on the ear of Manfredo that sent him dazed backwards. Chavez Jr unleashed a barrage of punches- some landing, some not. Peter was not defenseless as he moved to evade and clinch. The moment Manfredo clinched, the referee stepped in to stop the fight.

We just saw Angulo punch himself out against Kirkland when he had him in trouble. It seems the referee did not give Manfredo the same chance.

Manfredo was busier. Power shots were key in this fight. Final punch stat numbers: Chavez Jr landed 98/221= 44%. Manfredo landed 67/284=24%.

Kellerman  asked, “I think that’s the best we’ve seen you box. Tell us about it.” I’ve been working at it a lot. I took me a little to get it but we’re working on it.” “It was my first time working on boxing and it worked out well,” Chavez said to Kellerman during the post fight interview.

Manfredo stated before the fight, he was going to stop fighting if things didn’t go his way. “Yeah, I’m done. It didn’t go my way. I’m not an HBO fighter I guess. Every time I step up to the plate on HBO, I lose,” Peter says to Kellerman during the post fight interview.

Sergio Martinez was on hand watching the fight. Sergio Martinez is one of the best in the divison. Chavez Jr, the WBC Champion, fighting the #4 ranked boxer in his division is a disgrace.

It’s now time for Chavez Jr to test him self against an elite opponent. Sergio Martinez has my vote.
