Fight Review: Donaire Outworks Narveaz: Meh, Who’s Next?

Round 2

Donaire opening up with jabs. Picking his spots. Narvaes feinting often but not opening up. Donaire throws a 3 punch combo which was more like a feeling out. Donaire showing patience. Narvaes lands a great overhand right hook. Narvaes is outboxing Donaire. Donaire looking patient as Narvaes defends well. Narvaes using great ring generalship. Donaire was busier but did not land anything withing the last 2 minutes. Narvaes takes Round 2.

Donaire comes out busy. Donaire lands a left hook but takes a right hook before he can escape. Donaire shows explosiveness and evasiveness making Narvaes miss. Crowd building up anticipation. Nonito lunging and switching up to southpaw. Donaire is clearly looking to counter as he hops back and motions to counter. Donaire outworks Narvaes to take the round. Donaire opens by throwing jabs, lands none. Nonito having difficulty opening Narvaes up. Nonito lands shots to the body- straight left hands. Narvaes needs to opening. Donaire opening up with 2 3 punch combos, nothing lands. Narvaes being cautious, blocking, not opening up too much. Nonito much busier, not landing but busier. Omar thawing punches with no intent. Nonito thawing to the body. Narvaes throwing straights and landing on Nonito’s back. ref sperates both fighters. Nonito missing a wide left hook. Crowd booing as they are unsatisfied with the action. Nonito easily winning the fight on work rate. Omar is not landing his jab this round. Nonito ends the round with flurries- not landing anything substantial. Round 9 to Donaire.

Nonito opens up with 4 punches, all blocked. Nonito lands a straight left hand counter. Donaire is coming straight forward, not stepping around to create openings. Narvaes not throwing the jab. Nonito landing a short left counter hook. 4 punch combo blocked by Narvaes. Another headbutt, ref warns Nonito. Nonito counters again with a straight right. Narvaes lands 2 counters. then 2 straight lefts. A bit of an exchanges ensues as the round ends. Round 10 to Donaire.

Nonito opens up busy, all punches blocked. Crowd booing at Narvaes for his reluctance to engage. Nonito is not mixing up his attack. He’s still coming straight and not rotating to the left after he engages in order to create openings. 4 punch combo blocked by Narvaes. 4 punch combo blocked again. 3 punch combo blocked. Narvaes is in full turtle shell mode. Donaire has landed 79 to 29 thus far. Great right hand to the bod of Omar. 4 punch combo blocked by Omar as the bell sounds. Round 11 to Donaire.

Fighters touch gloves. Nonito opens up with 4 punch combos, 3 punch combos, all blocked. Nonito is bouncing around and throwing straights. Nonito trying to create openings. Narvaes simply is not doing enough to win. Roy Jones points out that Omar stated he’s here to show he can survive. The round ends with Donaire throws a wild overhand left and misses profusely and in comical fashion his hands lands on the ropes.
