MANILA, Philippines – According to Top Rank Boxing promoter Bob Arum said Floyd Mayweather Jr. is probably looking for a tune up fight before fighting Manny Pacquiao. Arum said this is the reason why a November fight date is ideal for a Pacquiao versus Mayweather bout.

“Knowing Floyd the way I know Floyd, Floyd is probably looking for an ordinary kind of opponent in May,” the Top Rank CEO said in an interview with Dyan Castillejo and Ronnie Nathanielsz.

Arum continued to say he believes Floyd will select an undefeated Mexican fighter to face on May 5th in order to cash in on a big pay day.

“The reason he’s zeroed in on May 5 is not because of Manny Pacquiao… to fight somebody like [Robert] Guerrero, who is of Hispanic origin, because May 5 is Cinco de Mayo,” he said.

Arum stated his plan is to promote a Mayweather-Pacquiao bout the entire time while Floyd serves his 87 day sentence in jail.

“November… is the optimum date to promote a fight,” he said.

Though November is the optimum date, according to Arum, he’s not 100% opposed to a May 5th clash between Mayweather and Pacquiao.

One must find this news confusing especially considering the fact that Mayweather chose Ortiz, who is a southpaw, as his tune-up for Pacquiao and the fact that Mayweather has been calling out Pacquiao for a May 5th clash since since November of 2011 as seen on Fighthype in live and in living color on video. And Mayweather called out Pacquiao today on Facebook- again.

Is Bob Arum using reverse psychology again?
